If the first Short of the Week in-real-life event was a proof-of-concept, the followup, held this past Thursday in Brooklyn, taught us the idea has legs.

Bigger, better, and more fun, 100+ short film fans, creators, and industry members once again returned to Kickstarter HQ for S/W:IRL #2 – Summer Edition. Beautiful NYC weather cooperated with us and we moved the party to the roof for a delightful evening of food, drinks, and conversation, before descending to the crowdfunding pioneer’s custom theater for a short screening + q&a.

We featured 3 films that had yet to premiere online: a delightfully funny “feminist noir”, a gorgeously animated stop-motion pilot from a previous S/W “Short of the Year” award winner, and a wacky, but unexpectedly moving, queer sci-fi short. We teased those film’s upcoming releases, while allowing attendees dive deep into the creation and challenges of the projects.

We want to thank Kickstarter once again for being phenomenal hosts, Amy Cao who helped organize the event on our end, local restaurant fave OTT Thai for the food, the filmmakers who shared their work, and of course all the attendees!

With the success of the event, we are going to keep at it, with a quarterly schedule for NYC, as well as crafting plans for LA and London in the near future.
