This creepy satire of a children’s show is slated for Sundance this week but you can catch it here. And it’s just the kind of bizarre, over-the-top collision of contrasts that gets my subconscious spinning.

In the film, a talking notepad sings a song to a group of friends about thinking creatively. As the gang puts theory into practice, their creativity slowly spins out of control until an underlying darkness is unearthed. It’s an exercise in how something as innocent as being creative can be taken to the extreme and corrupted.

Listen to your heart.

Listen to the rain.

Listen to the voices in your brain.

C’mon! It’s time to get creative!

For others in the creative industry, the film may hit a little harder as you know the stress put on coming up with new creative ideas. You’re always trying to dig deeper, and you don’t always know what’s down there. Sometimes the craziest stuff comes to the surface.

Andy Baker’s felted sets are spot on and evoke the delicate conflict between cute and killer with plush knives and real hearts.

This is It Collective http://www.thisisitcollective.com(the crew behind the short) have had fun experimenting with wacky physical sets in past films like Bad Things That Could Happen.http://vimeo.com/16094710
