We get a lot of filmmakers who reach out to us asking about the best way to break into the industry. Yet the answer is so simple that it can seem like a non-answer: Take every opportunity to make a film and hone your craft and voice as a filmmaker. The people we see who break through are those who simply kept going when others gave up.

We were supporters of the Moët Moment Film Festival last year and they’re back again this year with another opportunity for you to make something and have a shot at landing their coveted $25,000 grant. The competition aims to inspire a new generation of filmmakers doing experimental work.

To take part, you need to pack a story into a film that’s just 60 seconds on the theme “A Cause for Celebration”. It’s short, but, as someone who’s done a dozen or so of these super short films myself, it’s a fantastic exercise in learning the essentials of storytelling.

Entries will be judged by an illustrious all-female panel including Billie Lourd (Star Wars), Laura Dern, Sharon Badal (Tribeca programmer), and others. Submissions are open now and run through April 5, 2018 and the winner will be announced at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 16, 2018.mmff-judges
