Oscars 2012, The Winners!

The winners have been announced, and if you didn’t catch the 2 hour broadcast yesterday, here are the short film winners. There weren’t many surprises. Our Oscar Poll showed the winners of animation (59%) and documentary (81%) as your clear favorites with the winning live-action short  in a close race (24%). What do you think—did the Academy get it right?

Take note filmmakers, the winning animated short—the lovable, Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore—premiered online over a month ago. So releasing your film online after it’s qualified doesn’t seem to put a dent in your chances. Times have changed.

    I wish Magnolia/Landmark would release the docs as a big-screen set, in addition to the live-action and animated shorts.  I’ve enjoyed seeing the shorts on the big screen the past few years…..

    All the Oscar nominees are for sale in the US iTunes store. Can anyone confirm that they are in other countries iTune’s stores? Either way, let’s respect the filmmakers and rights holders and not link to illegal copies though they are out there…

    They really deserve the award. “The Fantastic Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore” – directed by William Joyce is one of my favorites and the story along with the visuals are very well crafted. Its no wonder that “The Fantastic Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore” won the Oscar.
