Meet Buck

Last week we shared with you the heavily anticipated short film Meet Buck as soon as it dropped. An extraordinarily zany and fun animation from France, we posted it via Facebook and Twitter, but are only now getting around to a proper write-up. Hey, we do stuff like that, so if you haven’t followed or liked us on either of those services what are you waiting for?

Meet Buck, is directed by Team Cerf, a fresh team of animators that join a long and distinguished line of Supinfocom alums. In this short film Buck is cool kid with a letterman jacket and an adorably affectionate girlfriend. He puts off a strong, Michael J. Fox circa the 80’s vibe, and not just because he is wearing a Back to the Future t-shirt. I guess like Teen Wolf,  Buck is a bit different; after all he possesses a giant antlered deer head. Naturally this doesn’t sit well with the girl’s father, an uber-hunter. A gun gets pulled out, Buck hits the door, and the film is off and running (literally).

The film was hotly anticipated due to the success of a film we featured earlier in the year, Salesman Pete. The filmmakers are not the same, yet the two films share a website and a similar sense of whimsy, along with excellent execution of cartoony aesthetics in 3d space.

Like Salesman Pete, Meet Buck is also mostly an extended chase. It’s becoming something of joke the number of student-animated chase short films coming out of France right now, but the madcap action never ceases to entertain, and the two filmmaking teams behind Salesman Pete and Meet Buck have turned in the most exciting entries so far. Check out a brief, but good, interview with them at AsiansEverywhere.
