Valentine’s Day makes for tricky programming. Do you buy in and share strictly romantic films? I mean we’re solid fans of love here! Or, do you lean into the backlash, and share the cynical, anti-romance stuff that rebels against the powerful teddy-bear industrial complex?

We’ve done both in past years, but this time we decided to mix it up and play both sides. That way no matter your mood this Valentine’s Day you’re sure to be left unsatisfied (aside from the appreciation inherent in watching great short films!).

With that established, here are 6 recent films about getting your heart stomped on—the pain, the regret, the self-recrimination—but then coming through the other side. These are films that take the long view and say that no matter where you are on your romantic journey, change is a constant, and you’ll be ok.
