Short of the Week

Stasis

A soldier has to piece together the memories of his past when an injury leaves him with amnesia.

Set some time in the future, a soldier takes a hit from a land mine while on duty in ANWAR and finds himself at a hospital with a bad case of amnesia and only a few faint memories. Slowly he pieces together his past. But just when you think you know where this is all headed, it takes a turn toward the interesting. I won’t give anything away, but even at 23 minutes, it’s worth seeing through to the end.

Stasis comes from a screenplay by Phillip K. Dick and features his signature mix of sci-fi and reality-bending storytelling. The cast is impressive as well featuring the familiar faces of Beau Bridges and Ernie Hudson (better known as Winston in Ghostbusters). With its long running length and an estimated budget of under $500K (much in the form of donated time from what I understand), it’s not difficult to see Stasis as a feature film with a modest budget.

Coming from experience as a camera operator and then directing music videos, Christian now has his sights on directing features of his own.

I’m not going to say that this should be a feature—it shouldn’t, but I will say that this what TV could be. If I was SyFy I’d be producing 13 episode seasons with one-shots like this right now.

I agree with you Jason, the concept probably doesn’t warrant a feature, but it would be an AMAZING tv shoe on SYFY. Very high quality sci-fi series in the vain of Twilight Zone and Masters of Horror, but just for Sci-fi instead. A high quality half hour version of Outer Limits in a way. This film was perfectly done, the director of photography was amazing.
