Its a little late, but for those who are curious, Sebastian's Voodoo by Joaquin Baldwin ended up taking the prize. The film was nominated for an Annie last year too, and is pretty damn good.

For sheer originality, my vote would have gone to The Facts in the Case of Mister Hollow...

One man's thoughts on some of the NFB finalists...

The Black Hole—9/10: Short and Satisfying
Sebastian's Voodoo—9/10: Gorgeous independent CG
Reach—6/10: Nice animation, the emotional content falls flat
Legacy—4/10 Good Look, nice technique (all one take), but nonsensical
Dr. Mori's Teleshopping—3/10 Black Humor entirely in Japanese from Greek Filmmaker(?)would've liked subtitles.
