YouTube Embraces HD Embed

written by Andrew S Allen link-up on February 15, 2009

YouTube announced via their blog that it is now possible to view embedded videos in high-definition. This is good news for us as more and more of our film play links are YouTube embeds. Many of the major video hosting sites now support HD but very few allow full quality in their embedded players. Even Vimeo, one of the first video players to support HD content, restricts their embedded player to a lower quality. While the shift to Blu-Ray struggles, look for the online shift to HD to pick up steam throughout 2009.

I thought this was already up and running. I watched Perfecto in HD from our site for a while ago…

  2. YouTube has been known to be a little slow to make a formal announcement about feature changes. It’s a “in case you didn’t know…” announcement from YouTube.
